Are you trying to decide whether you need a pouch laminator or a roll laminator?
Pouch and roll laminators have distinct uses. By asking a few basic questions, it's easy to determine which type is right for your school, business, or home use.
How do they work?
Pouch Laminating - A pouch is a folded piece of laminating film with adhesive on the inside. The item to be laminated goes inside the pouch and is put through the machine. It heats up and the laminating adhesive seals the two sides together with the document inside.
Roll Laminating - Two rolls of laminating film feed together over rollers. The item to be laminated is placed between the rollers and moves through with the heated film on either side. This method is normally heated but there are cold laminators available.
What are you laminating?
Pouch laminators usually provide a thicker laminate for things like ID cards, photos, documents and certificates.
Roll laminators are generally used for items that need a thinner laminate or for fast laminating of large quantities. Roll laminators are usually used for signs, banners, booklets, and menus.
How wide are the documents you are laminating?
In general, roll laminators will handle larger, wider format documents. There are, however, wide format pouch laminators that have capacities over 40 inches.
These are a few key differences between the laminator types. They should help you get started if you know you need a laminator but don't have a clue where to start. Once you know which type of laminator you are looking for, compare models to find one that suits your needs.
